Built in the year 1214, the Saarn Cloisters became a convent for Cistercian nuns two years later. These days it’s a popular tourist destination for excursions and, thanks to its location close to the Ruhr, is easy to visit. As well as a museum, the Saarn Cloister is also a community and cultural centre with a diverse programme of events as well as a herb garden. The historic and picturesque main street of the nearby village of Saarn is also well worth visiting.
